August 2026 VC News: What Closed Through Mid-Month?
Through August 18: SpaceX closed Cursor, Databricks printed $5B at $190B, Accel raised $3.5B, and Stripe is reported to be buying OpenRouter for more than $7B — unconfirmed. Dates, named funds, and what is still rumor.
Through August 18, 2026, three facts matter. SpaceX closed Cursor (company-confirmed; the $60B price is press, not Cursor’s post). Databricks closed $5B at $190B with a >$7B revenue run-rate. Stripe is reported to be buying OpenRouter for more than $7B — unconfirmed.
This page is for founders and scouts who need the mid-month tape with names, dates, and caveats. Last verified August 18, 2026. It is a snapshot, not a live ticker.

Confirmed close vs reported deal — what differs
| Cursor → SpaceX | OpenRouter → Stripe | |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Closed (Cursor blog, Aug 14) | Reported (Bloomberg, Aug 16) |
| Price | Not in the company post; $60B in CNBC/The Verge | More than $7B (Bloomberg) |
| What you can treat as fact | The acquisition happened | Only that a report exists; Stripe declined to comment |
Most people will paste “Stripe bought OpenRouter for $7B” into Slack. One is a company blog. The other is people-familiar.
Did SpaceX buy Cursor?
Yes. Cursor’s August 14 post says it has officially been acquired by SpaceX, completing a process that started in April.
Treat $60B all-stock as press (CNBC, June 16; The Verge on close day). Cursor’s close note does not name a price. Cursor and Anysphere are acquired. Lovable, CodeRabbit, and Blacksmith raised the same month as independents — create / review / validate did not all get bought.
Full memo: SpaceX closes Cursor acquisition.
Did Stripe buy OpenRouter?
Not as a company-confirmed fact. Bloomberg reported an agreement above $7B on August 16. TechCrunch quoted a Stripe spokesperson: the company does not comment on rumors.
OpenRouter’s last verified round is still May’s $113M Series B at $1.3B. If the Bloomberg figure holds, that is about 5x in a quarter — only if the report is true. OpenRouter stays private until Stripe or OpenRouter publish.
Full memo: Stripe–OpenRouter $7B talks.
What is Databricks’s valuation in 2026?
$190 billion as of the August 13 $5B close, led by Coatue. Company: >$7B revenue run-rate, >80% YoY. Returning names include a16z, Insight Partners, Thrive, and NEA.
July 16 was a $188B term sheet with no disclosed raise size. Older $134B / $43B marks are historical. Use the August close.
Full memo: Databricks valuation 2026.
What is Anthropic’s valuation in 2026?
The last company mark is $965 billion (May 28 Series H). Business Insider (Aug 14) cited traders describing secondary prints as high as $1.5 trillion; Anthropic declined to comment. That is not a new company round.
August also mixed in revenue: Q2 preliminary >$11.5B (a quarter) and a ~$65B July run-rate (Bloomberg people-familiar). Keep those off the valuation line.
Full memo: Anthropic valuation 2026.
Accel’s $3.5B — what Accel actually said
Accel posted $3.5 billion across four early-stage vehicles on August 11. That is seed/A supply while late-stage concentrates in Databricks, Higgsfield, and Groq.
Accel’s own post does not publish the $800M US / $800M Europe+Israel / $550M India / $1.35B expansion split. That split is Bloomberg/Dealroom.
Full memo: Accel $3.5B early-stage funds. Accel does not have a /fund/ page here.
Other August checks worth opening
Monday Aug 17 stacked four large product bets: create video (Higgsfield $400M @ $5.4B), serve inference (Groq $350M @ $3.5B), talk to the computer (Wispr $280M @ $2B), move earth (Gravis $200M).
Vals AI ($40M @ $400M, a16z lead) is the scorekeeper next to those builders. Form Energy ($750M Series G) and Lovable ($400M @ $13.3B) closed Aug 12.
Physical tape the mega-rounds crowded out: Heaviside printed $600M three months after stealth (Nammo warheads; revenue not disclosed). Point2 extended Series B to $136M total — RF cables vs Lumilens optics; not $136M of new cash in one close.
What not to treat as closed
- $60B Cursor — press, not Cursor’s close post.
- Stripe–OpenRouter — Bloomberg report; Stripe declined to comment.
- Relay.app shutdown (TechCrunch, Aug 17) is not Relay (Relay FI, Toronto SMB banking).
- Anthropic $1.5T — secondary talk (Business Insider, Aug 14, traders); last company round remains $965B.
- Anthropic revenue: Q2 2026 preliminary >$11.5B (Bloomberg/CNBC, Aug 15) is a quarter. ~$65B July run-rate (Bloomberg people-familiar, Aug 17) is a projection. May Series H still cited about $47B. Do not mash these.
- Poolside $2B / $10B (Fortune, Aug 17, unnamed sources) — no company PR found here yet.
- Last-round databases with 2026 scrape dates — Checkout.com’s $1B Series D, Stability AI’s 2022 Coatue round, Better.com’s 2021 SoftBank check, and similar rows are not August 2026 news. We only memo deals announced this month.
Smaller rounds (no standalone memo)
Smack ($61M), Terra ($18M seed extension; 8VC named), Sonic Fire ($15M; Khosla), Lemma ($2.3M; YC), Discovered Materials ($9M seed; aggregator), Xpander ($7.5M), Takt ($9.25M), Leal Therapeutics ($30M). Detail sits in the Aug 14–18 roundup.
YC Fall 2026 (still open)
The on-time deadline was July 27. Late applications remain open without a guaranteed decision date. On-time applicants were promised a decision by August 28. Guide: YC Fall 2026 applications.
