August 14–18 VC News: Cursor–SpaceX, Stripe–OpenRouter, Databricks $190B

Aug 14–18, 2026: SpaceX closed Cursor (company-confirmed), Stripe–OpenRouter reported at $7B+, Vals AI $40M (a16z), plus Databricks $190B, Accel $3.5B, Higgsfield, Groq, Wispr, and Gravis.

Earlier August already covered Form Energy, Lovable, River AI, Neros, and the Aug 12 software+energy set. This page is the Aug 14–18 tape — funding plus two M&A events that change Cursor and OpenRouter. For the month-level map, use August 2026 VC news.

Theme 1 — Enterprise AI got a $190B mark

Databricks closed $5 billion at $190 billion on August 13, 2026 (widely digested Aug 14). Company: >$7B revenue run-rate, >80% YoY, Lakebase >$100M run-rate, adjusted FCF positive LTM. Coatue led; returning names include a16z, Insight, Thrive, and NEA.

Databricks now reflects that $190B close, not the older ~$43B-class marks.

Theme 2 — Early-stage supply vs late-stage concentration

Accel posted $3.5 billion across four early-stage vehicles on August 11. Accel’s own note names Lovable, Cambridge Aerospace, Decagon, and Armadin. Vehicle split ($800M US / $800M Europe+Israel / $550M India / $1.35B expansion) is Bloomberg/Dealroom, not Accel’s post — labeled as such on the deep-dive.

Weekend Aug 15–16 was not empty: Bloomberg’s Stripe–OpenRouter report landed Aug 16. Cursor’s close post is Aug 14, not a quiet Friday. YC-adjacent smaller items still sit below.

Theme 2b — M&A, confirmed vs reported

Cursor is company-confirmed into SpaceX. $60B is press (CNBC June; The Verge on close), not in Cursor’s note. Cursor and Anysphere are acquired.

OpenRouter is reported into Stripe at >$7B. Stripe declined to comment. OpenRouter stays private. May’s $113M Series B is still the last verified round.

Vals AI ($40M @ $400M, Aug 13, a16z lead, 8VC returning) is the scorekeeper next to those builders.

Anthropic: Bloomberg (Aug 17) said people familiar put July-end run-rate at $65B vs May’s company $47B. Projection, not an Anthropic PR — noted on /2026-anthropic-65b-series-h-965b-valuation and /startup/anthropic.

Do not confuse Relay.app’s shutdown (TechCrunch Aug 17, team to Chrome) with Relay (Relay FI, Toronto SMB banking).

Theme 3 — Aug 17: compute, interface, physical AI

Monday’s four large checks: create video (Higgsfield) → serve inference (Groq) → talk to the computer (Wispr) → move earth (Gravis).

Pair Groq with earlier Firmus and Fireworks. Pair Gravis with Hadrian. Pair Wispr with Lovable as two Menlo-led interface bets the same month.
