Introduction

Venture Capital Tracker (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is an independently operated publication. This Privacy Policy describes the personal information we process when you visit venturecapitaltracker.com.

We do not operate user accounts, do not accept file uploads, and do not train AI models on visitor submissions.

Information we collect

Contact form and email

If you write to us through the contact page or email, we receive:

Name
Email address
Optional phone number
Subject (including correction and content-removal subjects)
Message text

We use this only to respond, to correct or review published content, and to keep a record of the request. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to reduce automated submissions. A Turnstile token is sent with the message to a Cloudflare Worker that forwards the mail to us.

We load PostHog US Cloud only after you accept the analytics cookie category. If you reject analytics, we do not load PostHog.

When analytics is on, PostHog may process:

Page URL and title
Referrer and campaign (UTM) parameters
Approximate device and browser information
Anonymous product events (for example, directory filter changes, outbound-link clicks, or that a contact form was submitted — with the subject, not the message)

We do not send form field values, calculator values, search text, or account identifiers to PostHog. We do not identify you as a named user. Automatic click collection is disabled. Session replay, if enabled in our PostHog project, is sampled and input-masked.

You can change this later through the cookie preferences control.

Watchlist (browser only)

If you save a fund or startup to the watchlist, the profile IDs stay in your browser’s localStorage. We do not store that list on our servers.

Theme preference may also be stored locally in your browser.

Host and infrastructure logs

Our host (Cloudflare) and related infrastructure may record IP address, user agent, requested URL, and similar request metadata to operate, secure, and debug the site. We do not use these logs to build marketing profiles.

What we do not collect

Account registrations or server-side profile lists
Uploaded files or visitor images
Payment card data
Newsletter subscriptions (we do not run a subscribed mailing list on this site today)
Advertising or cross-site marketing pixels

How we use information

Reply to contact messages and process correction or removal requests
Understand which pages are useful after you consent to analytics
Operate and secure the website
Comply with law when we must

We do not sell personal information. We do not use contact messages to train public AI models.

We share information only as needed to run the site:

PostHog (US Cloud), after analytics consent, to process anonymous analytics
Cloudflare (hosting, Turnstile, and the mail-forwarding Worker) to deliver the site, reduce form spam, and receive contact mail
Authorities, if the law requires it or to protect the site and other visitors

Third-party sites we link to have their own policies.

Cookies and similar storage

Necessary: the cookie-consent choice itself, and similar storage required for the site to work
Analytics: PostHog, only after you accept analytics
Local watchlist and theme: stored in your browser, not as a third-party marketing cookie

There is no marketing-cookie category because we do not load ad pixels.

Browser settings can also block or delete cookies; that may reset consent or your watchlist.

Your rights

For contact messages we hold, you may ask us to:

Access what you sent
Correct inaccurate details
Delete the message
Object to further use of that correspondence

Analytics data is anonymous and consent-gated. Rejecting analytics, or later changing cookie preferences, is the control for that processing. Clearing site data removes your local watchlist.

International processing

PostHog US Cloud processes analytics in the United States when you have consented. Hosting and email providers may process data in the EU and other regions as needed to operate the site.

Retention

Contact messages: as long as needed to respond, correct content, or meet a legal duty
PostHog analytics: according to our PostHog project settings, only for visitors who consented
Watchlist and theme: until you clear them in your browser
Host logs: according to the host’s operational defaults

Children

This site is aimed at founders, investors, and researchers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted a contact message, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on our website and updating the “Last updated” date.
