Overview
Sekai is a consumer app for making, sharing, playing and remixing small interactive programs by describing them in natural language. Unlike enterprise coding assistants, it treats software creation as a social, creative medium. Founder Lucky Zhang previously built technology businesses later acquired by Apple and ByteDance. Sekai joined a16z Speedrun SR003.
On June 3, 2026 the company announced $26M in combined seed and Series A financing: a $20M Series A co-led by Khosla Ventures and Connect Ventures, after a seed round led by Mayfield. Participating investors included a16z Speedrun. Sekai said users had created more than 15M mini-apps with about 200,000 newly created daily; these are company-reported creations rather than audited active users or paying customers.
The central strategic question is retention: do people continue to play and remix apps once the novelty of generation fades?
Why Sekai is interesting
Sekai's company-reported 15 million created mini-apps and 200,000 daily creations are unusually meaningful product engagement signals for an early consumer software platform; its $20M Series A offers financing confirmation.
