Overview

SafeWorld develops scenario-based safety evaluations for robotic systems operating near people. It generates rare but high-consequence conditions, measures system failures and provides teams with evidence for deployment review. Cofounders Ding Zhao, Kyle Wong and Simo Rachidi combine academic robotics-safety research and applied AI engineering, with Zhao a professor at Carnegie Mellon University.

SafeWorld joined a16z Speedrun SR006 and announced an approximately $12.2M seed round in early October 2026, co-led by Shine Capital and a16z Speedrun. The investment reflects the challenge of validating stochastic AI behavior in physical systems. SafeWorld's evaluation product does not prove that every customer robot is safe: deployment still depends on a robot's design, training, tests, operations and applicable standards.

Why SafeWorld is interesting

SafeWorld announced a $12.2M October 2026 seed round co-led by Shine Capital and a16z Speedrun. Its specialist focus on probabilistic robotics safety is increasingly relevant to real deployments; risk assessment is not a guarantee of safe robots.

Product & use cases

Evaluate real-world robot safety risks through edge-case scenario generation, testing, failure analysis and risk reporting.

  • Humanoid developers assessing movement and interaction failures
  • Industrial robots validating edge cases before deployment
  • Safety teams tracking changes in model performance and risk
