Overview
VÆRIDION GmbH is developing the nine-passenger Microliner, a battery-electric aircraft for shorter scheduled, charter and cargo missions. The company is based in Munich and has engineering operations in Delft, Netherlands. Its stated design targets include approximately 400 km range under instrument-flight rules with nine passengers, 10 cubic metres cargo capability, and charging in under 40 minutes.
These are engineering targets for an unapproved aircraft, not certified operating performance. The company says its propulsion and battery technologies are in ground tests and its first conforming aircraft remains to be built. In November 2026 it reported €30M in new Series A2 equity, about €60M cumulative historical public/equity funding, and separate selection for a €94.5M EU Innovation Fund grant, not yet contractually finalised.
ASL Group is its named launch customer, and 130 prospective aircraft commitments worth over €730M are company-announced commercial commitments, not booked revenue or delivered aircraft.
Why VÆRIDION is interesting
Announced and closed a €30M Series A2 on November 5, 2026, co-led by SHIFT Invest and Invest-NL. A separate €94.5M EU Innovation Fund grant selection is conditional on a grant agreement anticipated in 2027; the two are not one equity round.
Product & use cases
Illustrative airline/operator route from evaluation to actual service, not a hands-on product test: (1) assess short regional routes, runway length, 400-km range and mission reserve limitations against aircraft specifications; (2) compare proposed seat-kilometre economics with turboprop or road/rail service, including electricity, aircraft financing and battery replacement; (3) negotiate a conditional aircraft commitment and future delivery slot rather than purchase an operational certified aircraft today; (4) plan compatible charging, maintenance, pilot training and safety approvals for regional airfields; (5) await EASA CS-23 certification, test-flight and production milestones before any fare-paying passenger service. The company's first conforming Microliner prototype is not yet flying; the 2030 service goal is aspirational, not regulatory approval.
- Future regional airline links between smaller airports where 9-seat electric service could be economical, subject to certification and route design.
- Potential charter, air ambulance and specialist cargo missions, subject to aircraft configuration and operator approval.
- Airborne/ground-based VALENZ battery packs separately offered on company site; development/certification status and pricing vary.

Competitive landscape
Edge: Proposed wing-integrated removable battery architecture and two-motor single-propeller redundancy for nine-seat regional electric flight. Claimed operating cost target is below €0.40 per seat-km; actual airline unit economics, battery cycle life, certified range and charging reliability await testing. No approved commercial aircraft yet.
-
Heart Aerospace ES-36 adjacent
Larger 36-seat hybrid-electric regional airliner concept replacing the earlier ES-30; materially different range and propulsion.
-
BETA Technologies ALIA adjacent
Electric fixed-wing and VTOL aircraft with flight demonstration progress; different seat/mission mix.
-
Eviation Alice adjacent
Nine-seat all-electric aircraft programme whose development was paused in 2025, illustrating fundraising/certification risks.
