Overview

Arize AI develops the Phoenix and AX tools for machine learning, LLM and AI agent observability, evaluations and tracing. Founded in 2020 by Jason Lopatecki and Aparna Dhinakaran, it announced a $70M February 2025 Series C led by Adams Street Partners, after earlier seed, Series A and Series B funding. Dynatrace announced a $915M Arize acquisition agreement August 13, 2026 and completed it October 1, 2026.

Its November 2026 filing disclosed $815.9M cash paid at close plus employee restricted stock/RSUs valued at $98.2M. Dynatrace says Phoenix will stay open source while AX and platform integrations develop. This is a **completed** transaction, unlike CrowdStrike's pending Fiddler deal.

Why Arize AI is interesting

Arize is one of Fiddler's closest independent rivals in AI observability and evaluation, blending commercial monitoring with the developer-facing Phoenix instrumentation ecosystem.

Competitive landscape

Edge: Bridges established model observability with a large developer-oriented Phoenix ecosystem; compare storage and evaluation costs on actual traces.

The closest alternatives differ by whether they investigate existing telemetry, orchestrate incidents, evaluate AI agent behavior, or prevent adversarial exploitation. Selection should be based on representative task-level tests, deployment permissions, data control and total ownership cost.
