San Francisco Bay Area VC Firms 2026: Funds We Cover on Sand Hill and in SF

A founder shortlist of Bay Area venture firms in our directory — Sequoia, a16z, Benchmark, Greylock, Khosla, and seed specialists — with stage focus, thesis, and honest HQ notes.

Short answer (as of July 2026): The San Francisco Bay Area firms we cover that routinely write checks from Menlo Park / Sand Hill and San Francisco include Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Benchmark, Greylock, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Menlo Ventures, Pear VC, Initialized Capital, Craft Ventures, and First Round. Founders Fund is SF-rooted publicly while our directory location field currently says New York. General Catalyst is Cambridge HQ with a major SF presence — include carefully, not as a native Sand Hill firm.

How founders should use this list

  1. Pick a lead archetype first. Concentrated Series A → Benchmark. Pre-seed machine → Pear VC or First Round. Category multi-stage → Sequoia / a16z / Kleiner Perkins.
  2. Match sector before brand. Khosla and Founders Fund for deep tech/defense; Craft for B2B SaaS GTM; Menlo when AI-native + Anthology adjacency matters.
  3. Be honest about multi-city firms. Pitch Founders Fund as an SF franchise with NY ops; pitch General Catalyst as Cambridge-HQ with SF partners — do not claim a Menlo Park mail drop they do not have in our data.
  4. Stack with portfolio proof. Use Bay Area startups we cover to see which of these funds already sit on Stripe, OpenAI, Cursor, Rippling, etc.
  5. Widen via the directory. This hub is not every Bay firm — Accel, Bessemer, Lightspeed, and many micro-funds lack /fund/ pages here. See the full directory.

Known gaps

  • Many active Bay firms (Accel, Bessemer, Lightspeed, NEA, Redpoint, Index SF partners, etc.) appear in market lore but lack /fund/ JSON here — named only when useful, not linked as profiles.
  • We do not publish firm-level check sizes, AUM rankings, or DPI for this hub unless already in directory fields (e.g. a16z $35B+, Founders Fund $3B+ as labeled firm data — still not returns).
  • Founders Fund location field vs public SF roots is a data honesty issue, not a ranking claim.
  • YC is central to Bay seed culture but is not a /fund/ entry in this shortlist.
