Why workforce AI creates a new security layer

Employees increasingly use public chatbots, embedded copilots and browser-based AI tools with company data. AI agents add another layer because they can invoke tools, access systems and take actions rather than only generate text.

Traditional data-loss-prevention products inspect files and network traffic, but generative-AI use requires context: the same paragraph may be safe in an internal model and risky in an external consumer service. Harmonic's platform attempts to classify both the data and the user's intent before content reaches the AI application.

The company also provides controls for agentic workflows and the Model Context Protocol. That moves the product from blocking copy-and-paste behavior toward governing tool calls, data access and autonomous actions.

Competitive landscape

Harmonic competes with Prompt Security, Cyberhaven and browser-security vendors, while large platforms such as Netskope, Palo Alto Networks and Microsoft are adding AI controls to broader security suites.

A focused vendor can move faster and provide more granular AI-specific policy. The disadvantage is distribution: enterprise buyers may prefer to extend an existing DLP or secure-access contract rather than add another control plane.

Crosspoint's involvement is strategically notable because the firm specializes in cybersecurity and infrastructure software. The investment thesis appears to be that AI usage control becomes its own durable category rather than a feature absorbed by incumbent vendors.

What the funding must prove

Harmonic says the new capital will help make safe AI adoption available to millions more employees. The harder commercial questions are customer retention, deployment friction and how often contextual controls stop real leakage without blocking legitimate work.

The winner in this market must protect sensitive information across fast-changing AI interfaces while keeping false positives low. The Series B gives Harmonic room to scale, but it also raises the benchmark from technical differentiation to repeatable enterprise distribution.
