# Othello Raises $8M Seed for Real-Time AI Sales Coaching

> Othello’s $8M seed backs AI guidance during sales calls. Latency matters, but accuracy, adoption and controlled outcome evidence will decide its value.

Othello announced **$8M in seed funding on October 14, 2026**, from a16z speedrun, Owl Capital and Long Journey Ventures. The New York company builds AI software that gives sales representatives guidance during live conversations.

Named angels include Andy Fang, Chris Larsen, Thomas Wolf, David Cramer, Waseem AlShikh, Dean Sysman, Alex and Philippe Bouaziz, and Kevin Stein.

Business Insider reported a16z speedrun and Owl Capital as co-leads. The company release lists its backers without assigning leadership roles. Valuation, ownership sold and the exact legal closing date were not disclosed.

## The product must be useful before the moment passes

Othello’s Hamlet model powers a desktop overlay with in-call suggestions. The company says it can prompt a seller without joining the meeting as a separate participant, and claims suggestions arrive in under 500 milliseconds.

That is a company performance claim, not an independently verified benchmark.

Our assessment is that timing is central to the product. Advice that arrives after the conversation has moved on may be technically correct but operationally useless. The relevant experience includes listening, interpreting context, selecting a suggestion and displaying it when the seller can act.

A model-latency figure alone does not explain that entire experience. Useful evaluation would measure end-to-end response time alongside whether the suggestion was relevant and actionable.

## Accuracy competes with attention

The product is intended to help sellers handle questions, objections and next steps while speaking with a buyer. This creates a different interaction from reviewing a call afterward.

Our assessment is that the software must earn a place in a limited attention budget. Too many prompts can distract from listening. A confident but incorrect answer can be worse than no suggestion, particularly when a seller discusses product capabilities or commercial terms.

The investment question is therefore not simply how many recommendations the system generates. It is how often a representative uses a good recommendation at the right time, and whether the product knows when to stay quiet.

## Adoption needs to survive measurement

The company release names enterprise customers including Microsoft, Capital One and Lyft. Those references are company statements; the announcement does not disclose contract values, recurring revenue or retention.

Our assessment is that customer logos and initial installation are starting points. Continued use across representative cohorts would provide stronger evidence of workflow value.

Claims about improved selling also need a comparison that accounts for differences between teams, territories and deal quality. A stronger sales team may be more likely to adopt a new tool in the first place. Controlled or carefully matched evaluations would make the contribution of the software clearer.

## Deployment design is not a privacy conclusion

A desktop overlay that avoids appearing as a meeting participant changes the user experience. It does not, by itself, establish what data is collected, how it is retained or how an organisation manages permissions.

Those details deserve separate diligence. The absence of a visible meeting bot should not be treated as proof of either privacy protection or a lack of privacy controls.

## What the seed needs to prove

Othello was co-founded by Jared Zelman and Raphael Assor. Its financing backs a focused proposition: helping a human seller make better decisions while a conversation is still happening.

The strongest next disclosures would combine retained usage, reliable end-to-end performance and defensible evidence of customer outcomes. That would show whether real-time assistance becomes a durable workflow, rather than another screen competing for the seller’s attention.
