**Fund size** is the sum of LP commitments to a venture fund—the anchor number in every fundraise announcement and portfolio model.

## How it works

When a GP closes a fund at a stated size, LPs have legally committed that amount subject to capital calls. Not all fund size is immediately investable: reserves for follow-ons, management fees, and expenses reduce capacity for new deals. GPs often target ownership bands per investment based on fund size—a $50 million seed fund behaves differently from a $500 million multi-stage vehicle. Final fund size may grow across multiple closes until a hard cap in the LPA. **Assets under management** across multiple funds is not the same as a single fund's size.
